Hello bookworms! As you may know, we're not quite out of the woods when it comes to public health and safety. To that end, we are continuing to be open by appointment only. Bring your mask and "browse" for some new books. The booksellers will pull titles based on your interests and you can enjoy a personal shopper style book experience. You can schedule your appointment online, over the phone (828-386-1219), or via email. Now there are even more ways to get your book, no matter how you placed your order. In addition to our curbside pickup, local delivery, and free media mail shipping options, we have recently added a drive thru window! Check out the video below & our IG page for more details! For more information regarding safety precautions and customer requirements, check out the May blog post on the website. We can't wait to see you all back in person! In light of recent events, we felt compelled to put together an antiracist reading list for our community of readers. Many of you have been asking about books for kids and teenagers, so we made sure to include books for all ages. This is just the beginning of what will be a very large list. We have over 250 titles on a master list and will continue to add to it every day. Right now, we are featuring books by Black authors only. While there are many aspects to antiracism that we feel are important for folks to read about, we do not want to distract the conversation away from Black lives and stories right now. So, you'll see included in these lists stories about Black joy and family, Black magic and pain, Black dreams and desire, Black love and friendship. You can browse see them in their individual categories or scroll through the main list to see more titles. Please be aware many titles are backordered right now but will be arriving soon. We have tried to include as many books as possible that are currently in stock but if you want to be sure before placing an order, just give us a call at 828-386-1219 to check on inventory status. If you're not quite ready to venture out (we totally get it) you can spend some time looking through these beautiful catalogs from Ingram, featured below. Give us a call when you find that perfect title & we'll get it to you as quickly as possible! Our book clubs are still in full, online swing! The Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book Club is meeting June 25th @ 6:30pm. Come tell us what you thought of E. Latimer's newest story, Witches of Ash and Ruin! And last, but certainly never least, Foggy Pine Book Club is reading The Tale of Gengi (after an enthusiastic vote via Instagram). Join us online June 27th @ 7:30pm for a lively discussion, even if you didn't like it! If you're looking for something to read now, look no further! We have selected a few fun quizzes and articles to keep you entertained while you are stuck at home.

Hello, Foggy Pine Readers! I hope you're all safe & healthy, staying at home as much as possible, and (of course) reading, reading, reading! As many of your are already aware, the governor issued an executive Stay At Home order this Friday, which went into effect yesterday at 5pm. Under that order, our store is considered essential as a bookstore that sells educational materials. We are deeply grateful that we are allowed to remain open and are taking extra precautions to keep our staff and our customers safe, while also providing for your needs. We will remain closed to the public and will continue taking orders through our online store, via email, and over the phone. Phone orders and pickup will be taken Monday - Saturday from 9am to 5:30pm. However, we have made some changes to the way we're offering curbside pickup and local delivery. We will still be offering free media mail shipping. Keep reading to find out what's changed! Curbside PickupWe are still offering curbside pickup, however, we are altering the way we do it to eliminate person-to-person interaction. There will now be a pickup station for you to pick your book up from outside the store. If it is sunny, we will put a bench out on the parking lot side of the store so that you can drive up and grab your order easily. Please call us a couple minutes before you arrive or when you're headed our way and we will put your order out on the bench. Your order will have your name on it but there's not usually more than person picking up at the same time. If it's raining, the bench will be in front of the door. Local DeliveryDue to the small size of our staff, we have decided to reduce the size of the area in which we will deliver. A map is included above, however, if you aren't sure whether your address is in our area, please reach out to us. Before we make deliveries, we will let customers know that we're on the way and ask where to place the order outside. Please do not meet your delivery bookseller outside or at the door. If no location is given, the order will be placed at your front door. Other Info & How to OrderSome folks have asked us what the best ways are to support us right now. So, we thought that we would give you some ideas. First, if you are supporting us by placing an order, we prefer taking orders over the phone or via email. This ensures that we receive the most money from your purchase, in a more timely fashion. If you want to see what we might be able to order, the online store we currently have is a great place to start. Unfortunately, we don't have our current inventory online so if you want to know what we have on hand, please reach out to us. If you prefer to shop online, please don't feel guilty. We are happy to serve you in that capacity. We are working diligently to get books on our shelves into a digital home. Stay tuned!
How does this help us though? Ordering the mystery box option allows us to choose from the books we already have on hand first before ordering anything from our distributor or publishers. This reduces the amount of people involved in your order, reduces the pressure on delivery and warehouse workers, and allows us to sell inventory we've already purchased. Plus, it's a lot of fun! That's it for our updates! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'll be happy to assist you with anything you need. The April newsletter and blog posts will be coming out soon, as well as some new blog posts from our amazing intern, Elly. We're putting together some fun stuff for you to read because, if you're like us, there's only so much bad/sad/frustrating news that one can read in any given day. And remember, if you want news and updates first PLUS coupons every month, sign up for our newsletter!
Hello fellow bookworms! As we head into the next few weeks, many of us are looking for ways to give back out of our abundance. We are excited to share with you an opportunity to do just that this holiday season. We have set up a donation program to benefit OASIS by providing books for all their littlest clients during the holidays. Get 25% off any children's or YA book that is purchased for donation and Foggy Pine Books will match that with a book donated for an adult. Together, we can spread the joy of reading and be sure that no one is without a gift this season! While you're here picking out the perfect donation title, don't forget to snag a copy of our beautiful holiday catalog. Filled to the brim with lovely books and great gift-giving ideas, you're sure to find something for the reader on your list. Can't swing by the store but still want to shop? Browse from the comfort of your couch on our brand new website. That's right - we've been hard at work and we finally get to share our online store with you! We can't wait to hear what you think! There are a few other changes ahead as we move toward the end of the year and the calendars start filling up. The Swap Shop is ending in December and will no longer be accepting donations. All items will still be available for $1 per item or $5 for a bag. Swing by and take a peek - you never know what you will find! We have also decided, after a show of hands, to change the meeting time for the Fantasy & Sci-Fi Book Club. The club will meet on Thursdays at 6 pm starting January 2020. If you're not already part of a book club, we would love to have you try us on for size! Not ready to commit to monthly book club meetings? An author visit may be just what the doctor ordered. We have local author Jim Hamilton in the store this month, doing a reading from his debut novel, The Last Entry. Come by this Friday and see what all the buzz is about! We will be closed for Thanksgiving to allow our staff time to visit with family & friends. We'll be open our regular hours on Black Friday & Small Business Saturday. Come see us first thing Saturday and be entered to win one of THREE amazing giveaways - a set of books, a $30 gift card, or a canvas totebag! If you're one of the first ten purchasing customers, you will get 25% off your total order. Can't make it in first thing? We are also offering 10% off all books purchased between 5-9 pm. All purchases entitle you to a free, warm cup of coffee/tea/cider/cocoa and some Jane cuddles. So many reasons to shop local! Looking for things to do this month? In addition to today's author visit, we have quite a few things events to join in this month. We have two regular book clubs that meet once a month to discuss our shared read. You can learn more about them here. The inaugural meeting of the brand new Silent Book Club is November 12th at 1pm. Learn more about that here. It's also NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and we're holding 4 more write-ins this month. Come write with us and get free coffee & snacks then, during the last write-in, we'll have cake to celebrate your writing all month! There's always a lot happening at Foggy Pine Books so keep an eye on our calendar & we hope to see you at an event. November is shaping up to be a busy month but that doesn't mean we've taken a break from reading over here at the store. Check out our staff picks and let us know what's on your list this month! Hint: You can click each cover to buy online from our new store! Mary:Rasier:Lillian:Katharine:We look forward to seeing you soon. Read on! Hello, bookish friends! I hope you've had a wonderful year, so far, and that this summer has treated you well. I'm writing today with news and updates about the bookstore. The first item on my list is the newsletter. The newsletter has been difficult to keep up with, for various reasons, and I've felt awful for not being able to send out an update every month. After much thought, I've decided to change up the way we share information about the store. From now on, all important updates, sales, interesting information, and anything else that typically would have gone in the newsletter, can be found in blog posts that I share on our website--just like this one. This way, the important information will go out to anyone who is interested in reading it, not just those who have signed up for the newsletter. This doesn't mean I'm getting rid of the newsletter though! I will send out a newsletter inviting our dedicated readers to check out the new blog posts and a newsletter with our event calendar at the beginning of each month. These will be combined as often as possible so that we don't overwhelm your inbox. I've put a lot of thought into this and feel confident that this is the way our customers can get the information that is most relevant to them and that they are most interested in reading. If you have not signed up for our newsletter and would like reminders about our new blog posts and our monthly event calendars straight to your inbox, you can sign up here. Second, with new people in town and lots of people returning at this time of year, I want to gently remind our customers that the cats need to be treated with respect when you visit the bookstore. Our cats are very friendly and love our customers but, like all creatures, need certain things to be happy. If you are visiting the store with a group, please take turns petting the cats and do not crowd around them. This causes both cats to get anxious and I'd like to avoid that as much as possible. Also, unless they show you that they want to be held, DO NOT PICK UP THE CATS. While they enjoy being petted, they don't always react well to being scooped up--especially if they're sleeping. Jane, the grey cat, is the only one who will ask to be held. She will reach her front paws up to you or lean up against you when she's on a counter top to show that she wants to be held. If you want to spend time with the cats, they enjoy when you sit next to them and will often crawl into your lap. Finally, please do not try to get them riled up by playing roughly with them, particularly Kell, the black cat. Jane will not respond well at all and Kell, once excited, will often harass Jane and cause a variety of other issues. Cats, like humans, use body language to convey many moods. If you are unfamiliar with feline body language, we suggest you look over this guide by Tuft & Paw. The next item on my list to discuss is our online store. Earlier this year, our primary distributor and the host of our online store decided to pull out of the retail wholesale market. This was a huge blow to us and is something that we've been struggling to accommodate for the last few months. We've been working to get accounts set up with various publishers and to replace our online store with another option. We've decided to try out IndieLite, a program offered by the American Booksellers Association, as our new online ordering option. Currently, we are working to get the new site set up and organized but it's going to take some time. I'm hoping to have it completed by the end of August so that we can go into the fall season with a fully functional website. When it finally goes live, we will share that update on our social media, in a newsletter blast, and in the next month's blog post. We apologize for the inconvenience but want you to know that we are happy to place orders for you at the store or over the phone and, during the month of August, we will be offering FREE shipping on all special orders that request it. Next up, an update for students! Students, we are here to help you get your assigned reading. While we do not carry textbooks, we do order class titles and textbooks for you and give you a 20% discount. Just show us your syllabus with the titles you need to get the discount! We can order new and used titles. New titles can take 2-4 business days to arrive, while used books take longer, typically 7-10 business days. If you need a used title, please plan ahead to allow plenty of time for it to arrive.
The final topic on my list is used books. We do take used books and will give you store credit for them. This store credit can be used to purchase ONLY other used books and your credit will cover up to half of the cost of your used book purchase. If you would like to receive credit for your used books, please make an appointment to bring them by. We will not take walk ins and I apologize for this inconvenience. We are a very small staff, with each person filling many roles in order to provide you with the best bookstore experience possible. As a result, we typically have a very tight schedule and won't have time to go through your books unless we've specifically made time for you. Please check out our used book page to learn more about the program and to see what kinds of things we won't take or are looking for right now. That's it for August! Stay tuned for more updates & check out our events calendar to see what we're getting into this month! |
